Denise Hartley is the coordinator of TheFilmSchool’s Native Voices, an outreach to indigenous people of the Salish Sea. This program encourages the development and expression of stories that communicate human experiences reflective of culture and values authentic to tribal communities and individuals. She is also Co-Creator of Pierce College’s Social Justice Theatre, inspired by Brazil’s Theatre of the Oppressed and workshops led by Brazilian activist, Marcos Arruda. Denise recently completed a script adaptation of the award-winning novel, House of Purple Cedar, written by Choctaw writer -- Tim Tingle. Denise has spent over twenty years teaching screenwriting, mythology, folklore, civil rights and religious studies to a wide variety of college students, including active duty military and returning combat veterans. For the past six years, she has worked in partnership with TheFilmSchool bringing a diverse collection of students into the art of screenwriting and filmmaking.
